Program Description
The first leadership course of its kind for the association community!
A six week facilitated self-study Web-based course
ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership in collaboration with V. Dallas Merrell, Ph.D. of Merrell-Doman, LLC, author of the Leaders Toolkit, has created The Compelling Leader. Developed by a team of exceptional association leaders and facilitated by experienced faculty who understand the diverse challenges of running and managing a profitable and successful association, The Compelling Leader - Level I/II is designed for non-profit professionals with general leadership knowledge, to meet the diverse challenges facing us as individuals. You will examine the six fundamental principles of leadership focusing on fostering trust, sharing vision, developing strategy, building and energizing alliances, activating transformation and measuring results. The application of these principles is vital to your effectiveness as a leader.
The foundation for effective leadership begins with self-awareness so we will challenge you to apply the behaviors that leaders must exhibit. You will complete a leadership assessment to assess your current leadership level and obtain specific information that will aid you in developing or redefining your strengths and build upon areas of vulnerability. Throughout the course expect to discuss leadership techniques and share examples with others as you take a deeper look at the behaviors involved in applying each fundamental principle.
ASAE & The Center would like to especially recognize V. Dallas Merrell, Ph.D. and his many years in leadership application. Dr. Merrell earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and has specialized in leadership theory and behavior for more than twenty-five years. His early work in finding and developing leadership talent was mandated by a White House Presidential Executive Order for implementation throughout the United States Federal Government. Most recently Harvard University and their Center for Public Leadership in the JFK School of Government have adopted Dr. Merrell's leadership assessment. Dr. Merrell has provided leadership resources, training, and consulting through five U. S. administrations, to heads of large and small businesses and associations, scientists and professionals, and internationally to heads of government, village chiefs, and migrants to free enterprise cultures.
